On July 12, 2008 Good Samaritan Council along with help from Holy Family Council in Leesburg and St Francis Council in Purcelville provided lunch for about 40 Special Olympians and about 40 family members as part of the Loundoun County vs Fairfax County Special Olympics Softball Game for the Golden Helmet.  Unfortunately Loudoun County lost, but it was a great game and we were able to provide a great lunch afterward.  Lunch consisted of hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad coleslaw, chips, lemonade and cake.  I would like to thank the following for their wonderful assistance in making this happen:

Good Samaritan Council for their generous donation of $100 to help with the cost of the event and the following members from Good Samaritan:
Stas Chrzanowski, photographer
Brian Kuhn and his girlfriend Cecilia and her friend Diana, cake masters
Ray Bradish, truck driver and burger stuffer
Emerito Credo and his son Justin, the man with the van
John Dumm and his children Caitlin and Matthew
Herb Duvall, the scoop
Steve Schultz (the younger) and his friend Ryan Shugars, the grill meisters
Robert Henry
Bob Lanier for his assistance with loadout on Friday and Saturday
Bill Stewart for his help with loading and loaning us his truck
Steve Schultz (the elder), the man behind the plate
Tim Dzurilla, the man behind second base

The following Brother Knights and family members from St Francis Council in Purcelville:
Chris Jones and his son Kellen
Chuck Allen
Larry Small

Thank you to Holy Family Council in Leesburg for the generous donation of $100 and for the help of the following Brother Knights:
Phil Rusciolelli, PGK, PFN, FDD
John-Paul Beaudet, ex-Treasurer

I would also like to thank Seton Assembly for their donation of $100 and District Deputy Jay McCarthy for his support and donation of $50 to help offset the cost of the event.

Finally I would like to give an extra acknowledgment to Brother Knights Steve Schultz and Tim Dzurilla for umpiring the game.  I know it was hot work out there, but I think the players appreciated having two professionals out there to oversee the action.  I know they were all very impressed with your umpire outfits.

I hope I did not miss anyone and if I did please accept my apology.  I assume that Stas will post pictures as soon as he gets a chance.

I would ask that the District Deputy cascade this to the other Councils in District 18.  My recommendation is that this become an annual activity for our District as it was pretty straight forward, well appreciated and easy when you have this much help.  Plus you have got to love the Special Olympics players, they are really wonderful people.

Once again, thank you all for your wonderful representation of what it means to be a Knight of Columbus.
